Kebony as teak alternative

I am considering replacing the teak on my transom steps with Kebony.

This is maple that has been treated with herbs and spices resulting in a claimed good alternative to teak.

Does anyone have experience with this or has enough knowledge of it to make a good or bad recommendation?
