Re: Jabsco now bubbles, and bowl backflow

Before you force water down the vent line, be sure there is a place for the pressure to escape. IMHO, opening up the pump out cover is preferable to just letting the pressure escape through the head itself !!

I'm pretty sure Peggie has said that CH is Sew Clean, so an acid, not bacteria or enzymes. When we used BB (apparently an SC variant), that was because it happened to be what we had on the boat; I'd been using it to flush AC lines. Yep, more expensive than off-the-shelf acids; at the time, the $$ wasn't my focus.

We use CP for normal bowl cleaning and P-trap/shower sump freshening, though, because it's compatible with bacterial tank treatments and so forth (KO, NoFlex, etc.). Good point.

I don't care what people use. I'm just telling you the chemistry 101 involved.

Re: Jabsco now bubbles, and bowl backflow

On the L 450 the backflow issue is related to the second joker valve in the system. The second valve is an inline valve made by Whale. It is located near the bottom of the holding tank - it looks like a hose joiner. It will reduce the pressure on the head joker valve from the full pipe above it. This will wear out from 1. Time (rubber degradation) 2. Too much acid in the system eating the rubber seal 3. calcium or other foreign matter getting wedged in the valve keeping it slightly open and allowing back flow. After using acids it is a good time to replace both the head discharge and the in-line joker valves. https://www.hodgesmarine.com/Whale-I.../whalv1215.htm

Good point. I always assume people know their boat inside out.
