Is Shelter Bay Marina Boatyard any good?

I have just arrived in Shelter Bay and am planning to leave my boat on the hard for the hurricane season. I have some work to do on the boat. Are they any good? Could they be trusted to service the steering? Change head hoses? Replace a handle on a through hull?

Canvas work (Bimini and cushions).

LMK if you have recent experience?

TIA

Tony

May I suggest you walk the docks and speak with some of the longtime tenants like Rob on s/v Avant...

As an alternative, I've had excellent experiences in Flaminco Marina in Panama City and Marina Pez Vela in Quepos.

x2 for talking to Rob. They have have had several accidents with boats being total losses, and in one someone almost died because of carelessness. I left before all that was resolved, but it sounded like they were denying all responsibility due to the disclaimer signed when you haul out.

Thanks for the advice. I'll wander over to Avant now.

Yes, it is NOT the Shelter Bay in San Diego.

There must be hundreds of Shelter Bays around the world, just like Refuge Coves abound.

There is no “Shelter Bay” in San Diego. You’re referring to Shelter Island Yacht Basin.

There are plenty of folks that would mistakenly refer to the area behind Shelter Island as Shelter Bay. I live in SD and the first thing that occurred to me was whether they were referring to a marina here.

Re: Is Shelter Bay Marina Boatyard any good?

I had a big haulout at Flamenco, on the Pacific side about 4 years ago. Their part was done well, but you have to know what you want, and then watch them. Foe example, when talking epoxy barrier coats, they said "Sure, no problem." How many coats is that? Two. I had to get the spec sheet from the manufacturer to find out I needed four coats. I told them to make sure they reblocked so the areas under the stands would get painted. I had to nag them repeatedly to get it done. The work the did was OK. But they took note of the fact that I was there drinking coffee before anyone else, and was the last one out in the evening.
