Interesting way to put boat on the cradle

So I started preparing for launch and I looked down at the keel and saw this interesting item

Are we looking at the trailing edge of the keel where it hit the steel bar of the cradle? Nasty break, but just what is it?

To break like that, it is most likely cast iron. Specialty rods can weld it back, but I would likely just grind the trailing corner to a smooth radius and loose a few pounds of ballast...
