Insulation

So we live in cold Norway, and its often below freezing and henze its even get cold inside our 40 feet sailboat. We have done quite a bit work to it and now the ceiling is the next up on the list. We got some nice 3mm(1/8) bamboo panel that we would like to use for ceiling material. The deck is mainly GRP but some places it is sandwich as well. The ceiling also have wires and nuts in it that would be nice to ocver up.

So what we think about doing is to use 3m spray contact glue and glue two layers of 6mm depron in the ceiling, before gluing the bamboo sheet. Or is there rather another insulation material that we should use. We have looked at https://www.glava.no/teknisk-isoleri...-selvklebende/ however that is really expensive.

My wife is really concerned about fire, so the question how would you refit the ceiling of your boat? Any tips and links would be higly appreciated.

Re: Insulation

Don't forget the windows and hatches too.

I made up hatch f/g hatch covers but I am trying to keep the yacht cool!

Re: Insulation

Best R-value is poly-iso, but for extreme cold, XPS is better. Both are rigid sheeting.

For flexibility, look at "sponge rubber foams" as a generic term

but specifically designed for thermal insulation.

For fire safety, stuff rated for use in office HVAC ducting should be OK,

but I suspect Norwegian standards are much higher than those in the anglosphere, except maybe the antipodes.

Re: Insulation

Cryo jell sheets from US . Equipment to 100 mm polystyrene but 10 mm think . Will not burn or absorbed moisture and are inert .

Re: Insulation

+1 on the Armacell/Armaflex products. I believe it is fire resistant and is self adhering but can be removed. It is also anti fungal.

Re: Insulation

+1 on Armaflex. 10mm Cryogell is 12.16 USD/ sq. ft. Good stuff but maybe a little pricey for this application. Plus I'm not sure how one would attach overhead.
I think the product the OP linked to is an Armaflex equivalent so probably the best bet for his location.
