Impeller problem

I recently replaced the impeller in the water pump">raw water pump of my engine.

The good news is it now sends a nice, steady gush of water through the engine.

The bad news is that it also send a steady stream of water out the sides and back and into the bilge. I re-sealed the plate that covers the rubber impeller, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

I should say it did not do this before I replaced the impeller (which, because of brilliant design, required the removal of the whole pump).

I'd rather not spend $300 on a whole new pump, but I'm beginning to worry that it might be necessary.

It's an Isuzu C240 diesel. Any advice/ideas appreciated.

Take the pump off and regasket it. The only ones I know of that have bad castings are Volvo's. They use an aluminum die casting that they impregnate to stop leaks, eventually other areas open up and it then has to be replaced. If the bearing and seal is leaking a local shop should be able to fix it.

Good Luck.
