Hydraulic Linear Drive Mounting - FWD-AFT

Greetings,

A silly question - but one that I must ask regardless.

Can I mount my autopilot hydraulic linear drive FWD-AFT rather than athwart-ships as it is typically depicted.

Presumably a dumb question given at the end of the day it moves the rudder post thru (about) 60 degrees regardless - so its more about the rudder location sensor being mounted and calibrated correctly? See image.
