Despite trying to move away from PTFE when
cooking, i use this product a on canvas/polyester
marine fabric often and i know others do too:
Waterproofing
Star brite's Fabric Waterproofer + Stain Repellent + UV Protection
(
www.starbrite.com/item/waterproofing-with-ptef)
It lists these ingredients:
Petroleum distillates, hydrotreated light CAS64742-47-8 Solvent
Solvent naphtha, petroleum, medium aliphatic CAS64742-88-7 Solvent
Polytetrafluoroethylene CAS9002-84-0 Surface Modifier
1- What have people successfully used to thin this product? if it worked well please specify what fabric you were waterproofing.
2- What UV blocker is included... not obvious from the ingredients or MSDS? Might be held from public (if the USA) as proprietary but normally that is spelled out as "proprietary UV inhibitor"
3- does anyone know of an alternative that is cheaper and longer lived.
(Using on polyester fabric tarps often with a waterproof backing, Sunbrella like
marine fabrics)
