Assuming the question is genuine, the answer is straightforward.

Galvanic action occurs when two dissimilar metals are placed in conducting medium creating potential difference and current flows between them.

Electrolytic action occurs when two metals are placed in conducting medium and external EMF is applied to them causing current to flow between them.

But I think you know this!

One person does not.

Are those chrome or SS? Look a bit like chrome that is failing and the under metal has a lot of iron in it.

I wonder if occasional saturation with Dihydrous Monoxide has exacerbated the problem.

I have seen those cowls on AliExpress for $80.00 per item
On Defender $480 each.
I wonder if they all come from the same manufacturer?

Try the Citric Acid, but do it at 80 celcius.

Re: How to stop crevice corrosion?

Those cowl vents are Chinese made stainless, most likely will have some carbon in it causing the rust. The trim ring is chrome plated bronze/brass so there could be a bit of galvanic action going on. I have installed a few of these to replace those cheap plastic Nicro vents on other boats. Hood/Pompanette sells these and a few others, so if it's really a bother, you can always get new ones.
