How to Recycle Old Sails ?

A friend gave me two big old sails. I uploaded some photos on Flickr.
They are larger than Strider needs, but seem too damaged to cut out a new sail from them.
I can cut same spray dodgers from them; what else?
What would you do with old sails?
It seems bad to me to not recyle in some way.

awnings, boat covers, wind scoops......any number of items can be made from used sails not able to sail anymore.

Re: Old sails how to recycle them?

Here's what we have been doing for many years - (copied from club newsletter)

OLD SAILS FOR NEW HOMES
The Canadian Food for Children is a charity in
Mississauga run by a doctor and a great number of
other people, all of whom are volunteers.

They ship old sails to third world countries in
Africa, Central and South America, where they are put
to good use as roofing, flooring, and windows.

Please leave any old sails (doesn't matter if they are
ripped or torn) at BHYC in the Sailing School Office
or the downstairs lounge and they will be stored.

Re: How to Recycle Old Sails ?

Thats one problem solved...now what do we do with old sailors?
Can they be made into windows and doors? How many would it take to make a dodger?
