I'm confused. If the manager said "this is how much paint we will use and how much it costs", and is unwilling to listen to any reasoning, then it doesn't matter what quantity anyone else uses, or what Micron's stated area coverage is.

What will you do if he charges you for 9 gallons of paint for two coats? Go forth thinking that it takes 9 gallons of paint for your boat - regardless of other's experiences and the mathematics of the thing?

Maybe his is an honest boatyard and not like many of the others throughout the Carib, where they will charge you for 6 gallons of paint, tell you it all went on and use 3 gallons of your paint to paint another boat that has been charged for 6 gallons of paint. And so on...

You can only hope.

Re: How much paint for cat hull?

Says it took five gallons.
The difference is that based upon what I read here, on this forum, from you guys, we only went for one coat.

And I'll put the boat up in either Spanish Wells or Fajardo for the second coat.
And I'll see how much paint that takes, too.

Whereas, if you wizened old catamaran painters had told me that five gallons a coat sounded about right, I'd have committed to two coats.

The difference? Over three grand.

This hull has required 6 gals for 3 coats

45' Power catamaran, 3' draft.

New boat, paint applied to sanded epoxy primer.

International Micron Extra. One coat of blue, two of shark white.

We have a quart of blue left, and two quarts of shark white.

More than enough to touch up and paint in the block areas.

Paint was applied with foam rollers.

Re: How much paint for cat hull?

but you didn't say how much paint you started with, so how much was actually applied to the boat, or did I miss that part?

Re: How much paint for cat hull?

Yep, thank you. I did miss that part. Two gallons per coat. It's a bit worrisome that local yard assures me that one coat took five gallons. I think they're expensive, of course, everything here is expensive, but I don't think they'd cheat me. I've known them for ten years, and been a customer that long. It is pretty thick for one coat, from what I've seen.
