How long can hard bottom paint be on the hard?
My boat has Trinidad SR on the bottom, applied last October. This is the first time for me using hard bottom paint. I know that if exposed to air for "too long" the paint loses effectiveness and needs to be either sanded, or new paint applied.
I can't find what is "too long." If I haul the boat for some work for a week will I need to sand the hull before launching?

I think it's roughly 60 days. Was in the Petit specs at one point.

I believe it just needs a light scuffing to remove the oxidation

We use Trinidad also but usually put it on, allow to fully dry, then launch. Never waited that long, so do not have any practical advice to share.
Product guide says can be applied up to 60 days before launch. Best to call Pettit for their expert opinion.

My boat already has the Trinidad SR applied, last October. What I am asking is if I haul the boat for some work, how long can the boat be on the hard before the bottom paint will be ineffective. I don’t want to apply another coat of paint.

Sorry, didn't exactly understand your situation w/my initial reply.
Unless someone has done this and discussed w/Pettit, it is just their best guess on what to do or how long you can leave it out to do your work. Again my suggestion will be to call Pettit and speak w/their technical support has to how to best proceed. They should be the expert w/their own product.

I have SR on my boat and just spoke to the tech. department at Pettit, they told me after 2 weeks the copper can no longer escape the paint. You can leave it out for seasons as long as you prep and paint before you go back in the water. One other thing, you can put ablative over hard but not hard over ablative.

Every paint manufacturer puts out a data page for every paint
On this data page/brochure usually you can find the answer to your question

You are hauling the boat out and it is on the hard to do other work?
I would spend a couple of days to do a light sand and repaint.
For the cost of the antifoul and a few hours of your time you have restarted the clock.
Don’t forget the haulout cost is a serious cost of redoing your antifoul.

I talked with a rep from Pettit Paint. He says that the boat can be on the hard up to 90 days, though by that time the bottom would need to be scrubbed. For one to two weeks of being on the hard, nothing needs to be done.
The data sheet I saw had the time before launch after painting, but not time on the hard having previously been painted

Trinidad SR Antifouling may be recoated after the minimum time shown, and launched up to 60 days after painting.
