Re: Home Depot Starboard

Had it on my boat for 2 years down here in the Caribbean... Still looks like the day I bought it..

Some advice on Starboard.. Treat it like gelcoat. Where you cut it, sand it exactly like you would gelcoat (200grit, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, polish). If you do that, it will not get dirty and look brand new (for at least 2 years).

Re: Home Depot Starboard

Ours doesn't carry the Starboard brand, but there's lots of similar material. I've used 4'x8' sheets, as well as trim pieces. So far I've been very satisfied.

One thing I don't like is a lot of the pieces they sell (including the 4'x8'x1/2" sheets) have a wood-look texture on one side. If you need it smooth on both sides, you're out of luck. The texture can trap and hold dust and grit. In fact, the stuff generally gets dirty a lot easier than painted surfaces, but sanding does help.

Re: Home Depot Starboard

If you have cookie-cutter Home Depots like we have around here, you can buy starboard locally at any plastics wholesaler/retailer. It's called HDPE sheets and is exactly the same as starboard, there are different colors available and it's probably cheaper even than HD starboard...
