Hard Dodger Fabrication in SF Bay area

Hey there! I want to get a hard dodger for my Hunter Legend 37.5.

This is the kind of stuff I have so far designed (in CAD) and built myself, but I'm short on time these days and have too many projects going on: I need to outsource this one.

Would you recommend someone in the SF Bay (California) area who has built/can build a hard dodger in this style:

I like it!

I suppose it depends where you intend to sail but apparently ventilation can be a problem in the tropics. Have you considered a small hatch in the roof?

It is one of the designs I am considering and would be very easy to lay-up using Divinycell core over a ply-board, male mold.

To be clear this picture isn't mine, I don't know who built this, I've seen it circulated online when talking about hard dodgers.

I'd want opening ports/windows if possible yes. I'm more concerned right now about whether I could find someone to do it well, or if I have to postpone until my schedule frees up.

If I was in California I'd do it myself so I could get some practice on yours before I tackled mine.

I suppose you want personal recommendations: can't help you there. Have you looked at these?

My favorite hard dodger is the one installed on Riada 11.

It would be f/g sandwich construction and attached to the deck with self tapping screws. Hopefully the dodger would be sacrificial and the deck would not be destroyed if the yacht was inundated with white water and carried the dodger away.

Try these guys in Sausalito, Ca. I be interested in the cost and lead time. I just replaced my canvas dodger so will have to wait to replace mine with a hard dodger.

I agree a hard dodger can cause ventilation problems in hot climate.
I have a Finnsailer 34 up on the hard in Spain.
The cockpit is just habitable!
Would be nice to be able to open some of the windows but I think about the leaks in future and I forget that idea and go for a swim

Re: Hard Dodger Fabrication in SF Bay area

I don't remember his last name but if you go/call Svendsens Marine in Alameda and talk to wholesale and probably retail they can get you in touch with Mike who has been doing glass forever and truly is one of the best.

I'm building mine too and plan on auto glass for the front with a windshield wiper system. 2 ways to go on this. Thick, permanent or thin that zippers in where the current window is which would allow for ventilation which would be important in the tropics.

Consider as well a window, opening port on top so you can see the mainsail as you raise, lower etc.

Also some form of opening on the sides to allow for easy ingress/egress from the outside of the enclosure especially in bouncy nasty seas

Can’t wait to see the price tag on that bad boy! It is surreal what costs are here in California.

Re: Hard Dodger Fabrication in SF Bay area

Thanks folks! I'll send a couple emails and see what turns up. If it's too pricey to get it done in the Bay, I'll probably postpone until I have the time to DIY, or wait until we cruise somewhere else.
