Great value Perkins 4-108 tune up service?

Our Perkins is running well, but I'm sure there are some routine maintenance items that need to be done internally, besides change oil, top off coolant, and replace oil/fuel/water filters? It has 2,250 hrs on it and is a 1984. I don't want to throw money away, but what else could I have adjusted? And mainly, is there any recommended service marinas from Long Island Sound to the Bahamas?

Thanks in advance!!

Matt

Re: Great value Perkins 4-108 tune up service?

Workshop manual says

150 hours oil, oil filter, belt tension
400 hours drain and clean fuel tank, new fuel filters, check hoses and clamps
2400 hours adjust valves, and service injectors

id add seasonally, to swap out coolant
check water pump">raw water pump (if present)

The only thing that a regular person can't do is service the injectors. But it wouldn't be hard to buy new ones install and then send the old cores back.

depending on on your access, its all pretty easy stuff to do.

Cleaning the heat exchanger should be done every couple of years too. Why are you topping up coolant ? Is it leaking.

Go through and tighten to spec all accessible nuts and bolts. Also check the engine mounts. Also replace the rear main seal approx every 3-5 hours of run time

too funny.... if it wasn't for the rear main seal, I wouldn't need a diaper under my engine...

Not really maintenance, but my 1984 4-108 exhaust elbow (original) sprung a big leak at around 3,500 hours. The only "shut me down" failure in 4,800 hours. and 16 years.

Where you able to make a temporary repair to get your home? If so. What did you do?

very tongue in cheek. the rear main seal is a very common leak point...
