Hi!
I'm restoring a set
Plastimo Olympic 400 compasses. I'm finished with polishing the dome and want to re-seal the joint between the
compass housing and the dome. During polishing I noticed that
water pulled pretty deep into the joint (marked with a red circle on the attached image) by capillary forces and I suspect part of the leak has been through this joint.
I believe the body of the
compass is basic ABS and the dome is
acrylic. Before simply putting some superglue (a cyanoacrylate adhesive) there, I want to ask from here: is there some type of glue for ABS/acrylic that has good flow, is gap filling (I know these two do not really go hand-in-hand, however the gap is very small, 0.1 mm or less) and especially good for a
marine environment considering constant exposure to seawater and fluctuations of heat? UV exposure is not an issue as the joint under question is covered by a protective nylon reinforced plastic ring.
Thanks!
