Spotless stainless also works on it.

Re: Getting Rust Stains out of Fiberglass

go to ebay and buy some high strength phosphoric acid (20%). it is something like £20 for 5 litres in the uk. pour some into a cup and get a 1" paintbrush and simply brush it on. leave it for a minute and wash it off with lots of fresh water.

all these other products are simply phosphoric acid, diluted or in gel form with a fancy label and high price.

i have used gallons of the stuff i mentioned on refurbing my steel boat and it works and costs very little.

We use "Starbrite Rust Stain Remover", which contains Oxalic Acid and works great on rust, staines and especially well to clean the dingy hypolon.

You can also make up you own solution of water and Oxalic Acid.

.
No, they're usually oxalic acid, commonly sold as a wood bleach.

Oxalis is my choice. Not so toxic. Easy and relatively safe to store and handle. A concentrated solution removes rust stains in about 30 seconds.

I'd avoid muriatic (pool) acid as contact with stainless steel can form ugly and difficult to remove chloride blush. Similar problem with many other acids such as nitric.

Chlorine bleach is a great rust producer (oxidizer), so not do sure it's a good idea. But I'm no chemist.
