Gelcoat damage while replacing a thru hull

Ahoy. We are installing a new speed transducer. While cutting of the old thru hull, I accidentally burned through the gel coat in a couple of places, in the white area towards the bottom in this photo. (The blue and red are layers of bottom paint, which is getting redone later this week.)

Our boat, a Tartan 37, doesn't have a history of blistering. Can I trust the 4200 sealant to waterproof the exposed laminate, or would it be better to apply a touch of epoxy barrier coat over the bare spots?

Thanks as always.

A quick coat of epoxy will only take a few minutes to apply and you will never have to think or worry about it again.

Re: Gelcoat damage while replacing a thru hull

Definitely barrier coat e.g. Interprotect. A few coats will be needed. If gush is deeper than say 1 mm, fairing with an epoxy filler will be needed as the barrier coat will not fill gaps. Covering wider area than the damage is a good idea.
