Fuel Tank Senders

Hi Folks,
First post on here but have been watching for some time following my uptake of OpenCPN.

We are refitting our 37ft Schionning power cat and an issue that has constantly bugged us is the reliability of the fuel tank gauges. They either work or they dont and when they do they are always inaccurate. What we need is a new type of sender unit with far better accuracy than the age old pivot float type currently installed.

A decision was made to go with a Maretron N2K compliant sender with focus tube that could tie into our existing N2K network.

However, we have a problem!!!

The location of the mounting plates are situated close the inner hulls and as such we have found the the placement of said sender would only enable us to measure the top half of the tank. Not all that useful!!

See attached image...

Not sure how to get around this one so I thought Id ask the collective geniuses here on CF!

I have heard of pressure transducer type sensors that measure the weight of the fluid on top of them to derive tank level but as yet havent found any online that are a install and go proposition.

Can anyone shed some light on a solution for us??!!

Hope this is in the right forum. Mods, feel free to move if necessary.

Cheers
Raz

Re: Fuel Tank Senders

Maybe a 'Hart' tank tender will work, it can do 3 tanks off the one unit and measures via pressure in a nylon tube. Bruce.

Re: Fuel Tank Senders

There's an idea I hadnt considered. I wonder if the extruded tub for the tank tender can follow the curve of the inner tank wall.
