I had a very similar compression latch on our fridge. I bought this from Home - Roy Hopwood Fasteners and had the local inox man add the plate to allow it to be screwed from the front

I would like first to look for an exact replacement, to minimize cosmetic issues due to size and spacing changes.

Be careful with that Perko latch, it's chrome-plated cast zinc. While it won't corrode, the zinc will begin to 'corrode' and form pimples that poke through the chrome plating and eventually become unusable because of the sharp points that form on the surface.
