Flush Deck Cockpit

Next questions
My new trawler basicly has no cockpit. It has a Flush deck with railings around it. The engine room ( 6' x 12' x 6' tall) is beneath this deck.

# 1 - What are your thoughts on this style of build.

# 2 - What would be the maximum height or Freeboard for a 42' steel
trawler with a draft of 4'6" and a lwl of 39'

I've always admired the simplicity of a big flat flush deck on a large sailboat. Easy to get around on for sure... and what an engine room! I suspect it could be very wet at sea at times though. I would build at least a coaming around the front and part of the sides. The nice thing about many trawlers though is not living in the "cave" as many sailboats feel like.....the ability to be in out of the weather and have nice vision and livining space with a view is a nice thing about trawlers.
I'm not sure what your second question means... you mean aded weight up high vs CG/ righting ability?
