"Flowcoat" for spot repairs?

Good day,

Is "flowcoat" (which I beleive is waxed gelcoat in a paint-like consistency) suitable for small gelcoat repairs?

I have a number of dings a scratches on my boat and I'd like to fill them with some epoxy or polyester filler, then use a detail HVLP gun to spray some color-matched flowcoat over the repair.

Can anyone with some expereience in making small repairs help me here? I have no expereience in color-matching gelcoat, so I was going to get the color matched at the paint store and see if they could tint a quart of flowcoat in the same way they tint paint.

Thank you,

John

You can try that but it's not recommended. When you try to polish and blend it in it might not work. The proper way to do the repair would be to get a gel coat colour match kit and try your best. If the dings are less then 3/16" deep then you can use gel coat if not then use polyester filler if above the waterline. Bellow the waterline use epoxy filler. Once filler wet sand to 1500 grit and polish.
If you have any questions just PM me.
Good luck
