Flattening PU paint

How would I flatten Polyurethane paint so when it's sprayed on I get a matte finish? And for touching up small areas are there recommended devices? I've used the Preval System sprayers. After a while their cost adds up and in places they are hard to get. Thanks

Re: Flattening PU paint

Flattening agents are available.
Achieving a consistent finish is tricky.
A spray gun with an agitator is helpful.

Alternate method is to shoot gloss and cover with matt or semi matt clear coat.

Re: Flattening PU paint

I sort of knew of flattening agents. Are you aware of any that are specific to PU or does it matter? This is for small areas. And, while I'm aware that matching is tricky, I'm striving for good enough, not perfection. And thanks.

Re: Flattening PU paint

Used a flattening agent on a previous boat's paint job and wasn't anything I would do again. While it did knock down the gloss to a matte finish, it tended to ruin the integrity of the paint finish. This allowed abnormal wear of the paint and allowed dirt to "stick" more.
Before we sold the boat we repainted it w/no flattening agent and was a better overall finish. Boat looked good and sold quickly.
