Fiberglass Shaft Strut

I am looking at struts for my shafts and it occurred to me that it would be very easy to build, fit and fasten the struts if they were fiberglass instead of bronze. They could be glassed in, eliminating the need for fasteners. In addition they would never need zincs. This makes me wonder why I have never seen fiberglass struts on a boat. Am I not looking hard enough or are there good reasons not to use fiberglass?

That’s a good question....My experience is it takes a fairly chunky piece of F/G to have rigidity....but all things considered that doesn’t seem such a big deal.

I'm looking forward to the smart guys answers!

I imagine it could be done easily enough using carbon fiber and vacuum infusion with epoxy resin. There are carbon fiber chain plates so why not carbon fiber struts. The tough part would be in the engineering I suspect.
