Re: fiberglass dodger build with no core?

Just came across a hard dodger made of starboard? A hard top bent and heated to curved to fit right on the bimini frame held in place w ubolts. Then esienglass side curtains..brilliant if you don't need to walk on it ( which I don't) and it could be pretty thin. I assume still heavier then foam core though.

Yes, that works very well. You can get 1/4” thick King Starboard even with different pattern designs. I would prefer a Dyneema lashing over U bolts though to keep it in style.

For a quick and cheap approach, I used 1/4 in plywood with 2 coats epoxy each side and one coat fiberglass on weather side. Used stainless u bolts to existing Bimini frame, to which I added more support. Easily demountable in hurricane season here in the Caribbean

I feel like starboard would be so easy and cheaper no paint no prep no lay up no mess

Starboard is shockingly heavy and there are far better choices

They have a special lightweight version for this. It’s called Starboard XL.
