Espar Heater Blower

We just purchased a used Espar D8 heater for our Hylas 47 and thought we got a great deal. We understood that the previous owner had a problem with the unit shutting down after running for a short time, but I figured this would be a relatively inexpensive problem to solve. Wrong. The local Espar dealer took a look at it and reports that among some more minor issues, the blower is shot and needs to be replaced. Now here is the zinger: he quotes a cost of $1,400 for this part- not including labor!

This price seems insane to me. How could a blower possibly cost this much? Does anyone have experience with these? Any ideas of who is the OEM for this part? $200 would have sounded expensive but doable. $1400 is beyond belief.

One thing you can do is call some other dealers and ask the price of the part in question.

Re: Espar Heater Blower

Check out their dealer network and look for a vehicle dealer near you. May be better prices than at a marine dealer.

Edit: I don't know how difficult it would be to remove the motor (pictures aren't very clear and it looks complicated) but usually when a motor fails it is brushes or bearings and they may be able to be replaced.

If it's ocean options, they are very expensive and frankly their work leaves something to be desired.

When one of their expensive blower repairs failed in a year... and mind you this is not a live aboard use... I just bought a newer model and installed it and it works a charm... same ducts and T stat... just a swap out. and what they quoted you for a blower!
