Electcrical troubleshooting

When I turn on the anchor light switch on my dc panel both the anchor light switch lights up and the mast light switch lights up indicating that power is going to both lights. The same thing happens when I leave off the anchor light switch and turn on the mast light switch and both switches still light up. Anyone know what's up with dat?

Yes, assumption is you have a short to the two power wires.
They are somehow connected, so anytime one is powered, they both are.

By mast light you mean what, forward deck light? If so I’d assume maybe the P.O. wanted to light the boat when at anchor, but that is just a guess. Easiest way to accomplish that would be to connect both wires to just the anchor light, but in your case I’d look to see if maybe there was a jumper between the two between the circuit breakers.
Just a wild guess.

You say that when you turn on one switch, the other switch lights up. So are you saying that the led in the panel switch is lighting up or is the actual light in the mast lighting? If it is just the other panel switch and not the actual light, then you have some low current bleed probably at the panel. It doesn't take much current to light one of those lights in the switch. Are the two switches right next to each other? I would start troubleshooting by measuring voltage at the back of each switch with a multimeter when you turn each switch on and off, but only if you are familiar with DC troubleshooting. If you are plugged into shore power, unplug it before playing around at the back of your panel.
