Edson Steering System

Good day,

I have a lifeboat with an edson push pull cable/wiring steering system with an edson pedestal with 2 levels and compass in the middle. I would like to covert this to hydralic as the pressure is too great with this cable wire system. What does it take to do this, and where do I get the parts? I cant find much online except

Gave them a call, simply said sorry i cant help we dont do hydralic steering.

Anyone know how to convert like above? or know of a similar pedestal system that does have hydraulic steering?

Before burning through the cash to convert it, are you sure the Edson is working right?

Is it happening all the time? Only under sail?

You do not state the type of boat u have. That may help also.

26' lifeboat with a huge rudder, the wheel isnt very big due to room issues around the post so the leverage is half of what it would normally be. Its a motorboat so I do not need the 'feel' of the wheel

You could put a bigger quadrant on the rudder shaft. Be advised it will screw up all the pulley alignments.

Looks like they coupled a standard hydraulic helm with a sprocket to the Edson pedastel, added brackets, hoses and a ram. A bit of coin unless used...

Might be easier to add a double purchase with wire rope blocks...

Just a thought...
