Economical Paint for Sliding Companionway Hatch

Hi all, I am rebuilding my sliding companionway hatch. I have cold-molded it out of plywood, with a nice curved top using three sheets of thin stuff laminated together. Next I painted it with polyester resin, the first two coats cut with acetone for penetration. I'm not much of a carpenter, but I'm really proud of how it came out so far. So.. I'm looking for an economical paint to finish this thing up with. I was thinking about rust-oleum topsides but I haven't found it anywhere. Online it's only $14/qt but, I would prefer to go get it myself. Also, do I *need* a primer?

Thanks guys, this forum is amazing. so much better than the *other* place, witch I lurked around for a while.. before deciding there were too many jerkys and I should join up here.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, magnet.

For optimal results apply one coat of primer.
