Dumpster Diving Treasure?

I admit, I routinely check the dumpster at the marina-I have no shame. This ladder I pulled out has me envisioning a gleaming varnished and practical addition to my boat-my best dumpster treasure so far. But how to hang it? ABI used to sell a kit, but they are no longer in business. Does anyone know where I could find the bracket to allow it to hang over the side? Any suggestions on what it would look like if I had to have a hanger fabricated?

The black marks, unfortunately are paint-I'm hoping I can remove or greatly reduce the paint stains before using....

How about you make some custom dyneema soft shackles for the ladder to go around the stanchion bases at the "gate"? Or, if you have any 1/2" polyester double braid lying around, it would be something to cut, whip, and use--bowline knots around the forward and aft lowers, as well as through the upper "handles"; then climb up amidships.

Yes, designed for perf toe rail.

no slotted toe rail on my Pearson424-it’s a rail with a wide teak caprail.

I have the same ladder. This is what the brackets look like.

Weatherbird,

If you measure all that, the OP could make up a couple himself from s/s flat stock, or have a machine shop do it. Or maybe you know where they were purchased?

Re: Dumpster Diving Treasure?

Alas, the days of all the beautiful bronze hardware that companies like Wilcox-Crittenden and others made is long gone.
Although, there are still some small outfits producing some stuff.
Pick up a copy of WoodenBoat magazine, their will be some advertisers of hardware in it.
Here's an example of using modified sliders on a sheet track to mount a ladder.

I saw a 125 metre length of 10mm anchor chain with good galvanising in the dumpster at our marina…. That’s a whole drum of chain. I guess its possible to just have too much money.

Re: Dumpster Diving Treasure?

My wife is the best dumpster diver ever. In one short stay at a marina she scored TWO high end carbon fiber winch handles, and a 180 foot spectra cored halyard. Who knows why they had been tossed, but if you have no shame you can score some real treasure.

Best find ever. Nissan 3.5 hp two stroke outboard. Guy got upset it wouldn’t stay running and dumped it. I cleaned carb out and put fresh nonethanol gas in and it has not missed a beat in 3 years.
