Since most of my sailing is downwind, often with twin headsails, I have two telescoping whisker poles with outhauls through the centre and topping lifts. Both outhauls and topping lifts are run back to the cockpit.

I shackle the outhauls to the sheets and can deploy and stow the poles without leaving the cockpit.

Us geriatric, single handing cruisers need all the help we can get.
