dinghy davits

Will davits work with a flat stern and a transom hung rudder with no stern ladder? We get into and out of our dinghy on the side of the sailboat but would like davits so we don't have to tow the dinghy all the time or wrestle it onto the cabin top . I can't seem to grasp how with davits and no stern ladder you hook the dinghy to the davits or get it unhooked. We have quite a bit of freeboard on the boat and the trailing edge of the rudder is about 16 inches behind the stern. is Now I've done it, opened my mouth and removed all doubts of my ignorance. I'm sure there is some simple way to do it but can't seem to figure it out.

Re: dinghy davits

Your davits have a block and tackle on both "arms". You hook the boat up with a custom sling and haul it up. Then you tie it to the pushpit or etc to stabilize it.
You can lean over and un shackle the lifting lines from the slings while in the boat.
I can be done with outboard rudder, you need to work out the height requirements etc.
Or just step over the pushpit and into the dingy. You may be overthinking it.
Hope this makes sense.

Re: dinghy davits

Tackles hang down from each davit and snap hook to attachment points in the dinghy, easy peasy to do if you are in the dink, but it presupposes you don't want to swim to a side mount boarding ladder, so some kind of stern ladder would be needed, even if just 2 or 3 rungs oreven perhaps one strategically placed footstep.
