dangling anode at Marina ... clean off growth?

I have just purchased a 33' steel yacht.
In readiness for the wife to arrive and inspect, I moved her from a mangrove creek to a marina - There was one anode dangling from the bow. It was covered in slimy growth. I carried this to the Marina in a bucket and have this now again dangling in the water, as " additional protection from electrolysis ".
? should I clean all this slime off?
and...
? 2. This anode dangles from a thin copper wire, that was "bared on the end and twitched" around a pulpit rail. Is this sufficient a connection to provide protection?
and...
3.For short periods, how much do we worry about such " additional anodic protection "?
( Only going to be in this marina for a couple weeks, before heading off to anchor ).

Re: dangling anode at Marina ... clean off growth?

Have you inspected your other anodes? I suppose that was done at the pre purchase haul out when the survey was done. Is that correct?. A lot of damage can be done in a short period of time.

You need a more robust connection to the steel hull than twisting a bare wire around a rail. A good hose clamp after carefully cleaning the wire and the area you want to attach it to should be good, and a good stout piece of copper wire.

Yes, clean all the guck off the anode. If the boat was in fresh or brackish water that may be the wrong material anode. Check what it is made of. Be sure it is zinc.
