Cutter Rig Inner Stay Chain Plate

I am in the process of replacing chainplates. All chainplates except for the inner stay are easy enough to understand and access, however the inner stay chainplate essentially disappears into the hull below the chain locker. The tang is visible, and that's about all I can tell at this time. In this cases, posting a photo would not paint a picture of a thousand words.

This is for a 1985 Kaufman 47 cutter rig, but I assume that Swans and other similar Water boats">blue water boats have alike chainplate designs. If you have experience dealing with replacing an inner stay chainplate on a heavy displacement hull, how they are designed, how they are removed and replaced, I'd greatly appreciate your input.

Re: Cutter Rig Inner Stay Chain Plate

Inner forestay chainplates are often bolted to a watertight bulkhead separating the chain locker from the main hull volume. That's the way mine is.

Dockhead, thanks for your input. I will probably have to post photos. My chainplate does not attach to a bulkhead. I only wish it were that simple.

Re: Cutter Rig Inner Stay Chain Plate

Can you contact the shipwright who built her? Or even Kaufman himself? Asking for info from other designs is a bit remote IMO, and could lead to a lot of wasted effort.
