CS33 New Install Of Thru Hull Transducer

Hi,

New to the forum. Please forgive me if I’m in any way breaking forum etiquette. I have a 1986 CS33 sailboat and I’m looking to replace the existing speed and depth transducers. I know very little about what’s involved.

The first question I have. Is there an existing transducer manufacturer that will fit the same size ‘hole’ in the sailboat hull. I really don’t want to enlarge the existing hole in the hull.

Any thought are greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Paul

Virtually all speed and depth transducer are made by the same company, Airex I think, so you should have not problem buying a new system and swapping them out.
Whoever you buy a new system from should be able to confirm this.

Good Luck

Paul
I have a Navman depth sounder as well as a Hummingbird Fishfinder. I decided to fit them both but didn't want to cut holes in the hull so I fitted the transducers inside the hull.

I used epoxy "bog" (epoxy/talc) to fix the transducer to the hull. The next day I hooked up the units to the transducers and both worked fine

Can you mount a transducer inside the hull?

Helpful Hints for Transducer Installation (In-Hull Mounting)

The hull must be made out of solid fiberglass or a maximum 1/8th (3 mm) aluminum. The unit will not work through wood, plastic, or any other com- posite material. 2. The glue in location must be in direct contact with the water at all times during operation.

There are a number of videos that explain how to do it (very easy). Here is one of them which looks good
