That's beyond reasonable. That's dirt cheap.

Those are the prices we have found in Colombia, Panama and Guatemala also. Panama a bit more than that because of very high haul out costs, but the labor is inexpensive. Hempel paint is widely available in commercial sizes for commercial prices - sometimes two go together on it because 5gal pails ($400) are more than one needs.

Sorry but he talking utter tosh, unless he has included a return first class tickets to fly from the Carib to the UK to do a job. A quality paint is £90 for 2.5L and you probably need 5 or 6 of them. Labour well, £200 a day for a few days.

once one gets to where gringos do not find comfort in summering, prices come reasonable. baja to banderas bay are not so reasonable. for haul and paint, the places that try to compete with usa pricing usually work with mega yachts.
when one remembers that mexican daily pày per average is 200 pesos, then pricing comes into better perspective.

Re: Costs to anti foul 40ft boat

Just to make things clearer Zeehag. We met a guy in the UK who had bought a wreck of a Formosa and was going to restore it. We were interested in looking at one of these boats but as so few exist where we used to live we asked if we could have a quick tour of his boat, it was on the hard and he had barely started the work. He made a big pitch as to why we shouldn't but a Formosa type boat, and one thing that stuck in our minds was that he said it would cost £10000 just to buy the paint to anti foul it.
From these responses I can now see he was talking bolxxxks.

Re: Costs to anti foul 40ft boat

shanty--thankyou..i am still refitting my clapped out formosa, but poco a poco it gets better...you prolly hit him on a bad day... we do have those, even if we absolutely love and adore our boats. dont give up--i am still under 20 k usd total counting 10k for purchase, and 2500for engine, and under 5000 usd for what i have done to date...most has been trading stuff for the work done. i anticipate a grande total of 20k for complete repair and initial purchase total. n hopefully that will include paint, but that might be a nother story..,.we will see
