Cost for putting Name and Hailing port on hull

I need to put a new name and hailing port on my 2010 Leopard 46. I have one quote for $650 to put the name on the port and stbd bows and the hailing port on the stern steps. This company does the whole job. I don't have the option of putting the lettering on myself.

Is this a reasonable price (in San Diego CA)? (seems high to me)

I have the impression that it is not hard to put the lettering on. (maybe I am wrong?) If I do, what would be a reasonable cost to buy the lettering?

Thanks
Pat

Little steep. The vinyl is probably worth $150 if nothing fancy. Rest is travel and install, clean up <1hr of work at the boat as long as it’s just an install an they don’t have to remove your old letting.

$650? Your boatname must be very long
I paid $110 (in Oz) for name and hailing port on the stern, nothing on the bow,
Must say I didn't like (after being printed) what I agreed to and they produced.... font was far too bold. I didn't stick it on. They redid one in a finer font, now for $70, and I applied. So... I have a spare boatname with port available, printed in navy blue, will fit any 60 ft boat or bigger, going cheap

Price depends on: size (height and width), one colour or mulitple colours, shading, other graphics, quality of vinyl (I believe 3M is commonly used).
Some firms might charge a design fee as well, and of course, the biggest cost is for them to apply it.

Re: Cost for putting Name and Hailing port on hull

We put the lettering on our own boat, so not pros. Vinyl cost was less than $100 all-in. That was 3 names (both bows and stern) and hailing port. I’d guess with travel time it is probably a 4-hour job if the boat is relatively clean. Out of the water there’s some time setting up ladders, etc., in the water other things that take time. Doesn’t take any special tools. That’s the best I can offer, an idea on the time needed and the complexity.

There are web sites where you design and choose the font, if you get all one color should be less than $100. Mine looks great after over 8 years. Surely you can find someone to stick it on for another $100. Have it sent to them.

$80 in Canadian dollarettes for both doors in Toronto. I believe that's about $6.99US

I put them on myself ..... 20 minutes, not difficult.

Re: Cost for putting Name and Hailing port on hull

From memory the cost of my lettering and striping was around $A150. I applied it myself which wasn't too hard.

I was planning to get my vinyl lettering from the UK (eBay) as they are very familiar with what boatys want. They have many styles/colors to choose from. AND their prices were very reasonable. In the end I ran into a local bloke who supplied the vinyl lettering.

Re: Cost for putting Name and Hailing port on hull

We designed ours at a boatshow with assistance from one of the sales people. She was able to display it on her computer and change all the parameters until we had something we liked. They made and shipped it to us along with the spray and instructions. They also have YouTube videos for installing. I think it was around $250 delivered. 2 sets, one for either ama side, they're multilayered with different colors, along with the homeport . https://www.islandboatlettering.com/

Another option is BoatUS. They have a section on their website for doing your own boat lettering that they'll make and ship to you. Seemed reasonably priced.

We had vinyl lettering cut at a local sign shop for around $40 us and stuck them on ourselves.

Going somewhere that is not “marine” will save you a lot.

Go to a local print shop or vehicle wrap print shop. They can crank one out for you quick and for a reasonable price. Ask to see one of their oldest vehicle wraps to make sure they are using the best material. Will last several years as long as you wash it down with clean water and no detergents or chemicals

Re: Cost for putting Name and Hailing port on hull

You are being ripped off.

You need a sign shop - they are in every county that has political signs and restaurant signs to make. You want vinyl; a few minutes with the shop will teach you how to put it on, and if you need to curve a straight sign I can coach you on it. They should show you a proof before you commit. The cost is largely the vinyl itself, because it's produced by a computer guiding a sharp knife. The vinyl usually is 3' wide, so keep your design inside that, or check with the shop before you design your own on your computer.

Staying inside the three feet, Ours is 20" tall by four feet long, with two six inch tall names under the big one for the bow, big one on the stern. Under $100.

Design it online. There are several places available. Lots of options etc. and you can add graphic images as well if you want.

Use the extra money you saved to buy a backup anchor or another solar panel or two.

Unless it's really big lettering with fancy effects...that's way too high.

Well that depends. Does the installer have to drive 2 hours to get to the boat and another two back? Need more info.

And they could be made of 1/4" inch thick solid gold and it's a bargain...if we want to go with silly assumptions.

Why on earth would you hire someone who is a 2hr drive away?
