Compass Binnacle Mounting Problem...

Hey all! I have a strange problem I'm hoping someone here has (hasn't ) had; We just rebuilt our Yacht Specialties pedestal, and replaced the control cables with new 3300 Xtreme units...now I go to install our new Plastimo Olympic 135 compass and SS binnacle and guess what? The inner control levers for both throttle and shift whack the bottom of the compass! I looked all over the web, and as far as I can tell, they dont make a higher binnacle or a spacer. Anyone ever experienced this problem before? Right now it looks like I'll be making a Starboard spacer ring... Thanks, Chris

How much are you talking about?
The spacer sounds like a good fix.

1 - 1.5 inches...Not much, but I never expected this. I wish I knew if everyones control arms raise above their pedestal top. I have no experience here at all...but the cable mounts are non-adjustable, and I need this much throw, so it looks like it's spacer time...

Its not clear to me from the picture where your controls are going to mount on that pedestal.

I cut a split ring out of a piece of white starboard when I mounted a GPS unit at the helm two years ago. It looks good. As an aside, I needed to mount the Edson pod at an angle. I used starboard for this function too and needed to glue two pieces together to achieve the correct slope. Contrary to what others have said, it does take glue...gorella glue.

I've run into this on three occasions, when I was working on boats for money......whitlock or edson used to make a spacer but the starboard approach is faster eaiser and more rugged. Use two holesaws and you'll have a piece of plastic art!!
just remember to cut the outer circle first

The control levers are already there...look close next to the stainless compass binnacle, they a chrome levers on each side. It's inside the SS binnacle that the inner levers are being interfered with by the bottom of the compass housing which houses the compensating magnets when they rise above the top of the pedestal...

Lancelot, thanks for the response...I'm leaning that way. BTW, Scotch makes a glue system for Starboard now. I have the special gun and it seems to work alright.
