Cockpit tables for ketches

Hi all,

Curious if anyone has a cockpit table they like for their ketch. I need something that folds down (ideally), but also is quite wide (port/stbd), and quite short (fwd/aft).

Our cockpit is very wide (the benches are almost 6' apart), but since we are a ketch we have minimal space between the steering pedestal and the mizzen (only about 24").

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Edit - we have a very wide wheel (48"), so ideally this table is about that wide port to stbd.

I have one that is attached to the forward side of the frame around the steering pedestal. It folds down when not in use. About a foot wide and two foot long. Not huge but better than nothing!

A multipurpose, folding, table is always beneficial, be creative. Determine its intended uses, and size it for the maximum crowd you might have aboard.

Examples:
Poker,
Blackjack,
Checkers,
Chess,
Backgammon,
Roulette,
Drinks,
Dining.

Re: Cockpit tables for ketches

Thanks. Was hoping for some specific recs on permanent folding tables for ketches.

Found this at Wal Mart that I could cut a notch in for the mizzenmast (it's only about 2" too long fwd/aft), but wondering if there's any tables made for ketches... possibly one that goes around a mizzenmast, or already has a cut out built in.

Most cockpit tables attach to the fore of the pedestals.

Sounds like you may have a mast IN your cockpit in need of working around and not just fore or aft thereof.

Consider a custom build.

Here's a photo of my cockpit. Looking to replace that old drink holder on my pedestal with something that will accommodate at least two folks for dinner.

Re: Cockpit tables for ketches

What is the distance between the pedestal and the mizzen mast?

It appears there is quite a bit of beam room to provide for considerable depth of table to bring it to the seating. If the wheel is 4 feet in diameter then the table can be at least that distance if not more in breadth as it should come close up to the seating to keep the plates near the diner.

Is there enough length just between the pedestal and mizzen for two to dine.

Perhaps the table could notch around the mizzen and the hardware sticking out of the mizzen so as to provide a bit of side table space.

Re: Cockpit tables for ketches

Thanks Montanan. The distance between the pedestal and the mizzenmast is 24" - just short of the 25" required for that Walmart folding table I posted above.

You're right that there's quite a bit of beam, however I'd like the table to not extend further out athwartships than the wheel.

The 24" width is enough room for at least two diners... provided they sit on opposing sides of the cockpit.

Re: Cockpit tables for ketches

I have a centre cockpit ketch with a teak cockpit table. There is a teak drinks holder attached forward of the steering pedestal. The table is attached to that with a piano hinge, plus a hinged folding leg on the table. The table folds down in front of the pedestal when not in use. The size of the table is dictated by what will fit when folded down. The table is roughly 28 inches by 18 inches wide. Not very big but useful.
A refinement would be to fit hinged fold flat flaps to each side of the table to double the width when opened, also allowing the table to be used with flaps folded in or out.

Try these guys

They made a gorgeous table for me! The only problem is it was so beautiful, I had to refinish other woodwork around it ... and it still looks better 😉
