Clutch Load Requirement ?

Hi there -

we're in the process of replacing deck hardware on our 1985 Tartan 34.

Both old rope clutches are snapped (the plastic bits) and we want to get new ones while running lines aft.

We are looking at quad clutches on each side and were just purchasing EZlock midi quads BUT.....only one set stock in the whole USA (we need 2) and we don't want to get held up too long waiting many weeks on backorder.

So we thought instread about Garhauer quads. We have a boomkicker by them which we like

However they're quad rope clutches only rated to 1000lbs, while the EZlock midis to 1500.

Does that matter for our size boat? Recommendations?

thanks much

. You should be fine, I have used Garhauer quads. They have been ok, so far, and our 40' boat will carry higher loads than your 34 footer. I have to say that while the garhauer gear is, in general, good value for money, their clutches are relatively unsophisticated in design, compared to some of the more modern cluthces, so you should get into the habit of putting 3 wraps onto a winch and just winching on a tiny bit to start to raise the cam before you actually raise the jammer.... this will reduce the chance of damaging the cover on your halyard.
