Re: cleaning strataglass

Sirena...if your dodger used Strataglas, it may not be a "film" that is affecting clarity but rather surface abrasion or even delamination. When we first acquired Charbonneau, the dodger window was nearly impossible to see through due to age and normal surface abrasion. However, I have since learned Strataglas is manufactured from layers of thinner material sandwiched together. Those layers can separate which causes "fogging" also making visibility difficult.

However, Strataglass has specific cleaning recommendations found at their website:

Re: Cleaning Strataglass

We've been installing Stradaglass, crystal clear, and "O-Sea" for years now.. at one time I used only IMAR products or Novus but have now found a beter product, IMHO... Its called PLEXUS and used in the aviation feild..
the cost is high at almost 25 per spray can but well worth it..

Re: Cleaning Strataglass

hello Charbonneau,
thanks for your reply. i don't think my problem is delammination. the strataglass is only one year old, and the surface has a film that you can smudge with your finger. soap doesn't phase it, and i have tried IMAR cleaner recommended by strataglass which helps, but still doesn't cut the film well. sort of like it had pam sprayed on it.
thanks again,
bob on Sirena Gorda

Re: Cleaning Strataglass

I clean mine with soap and water.. THEN and this is the important part, I spray it with 303 UV Aerospace Protectant for plastic. rubber,etc...

The reason this is important is that the 303 provides a very slick surface that stuff doesn't want to stick to...Makes cleaning a breeze..

it came to me from a pilot who uses it on his aircraft, I've sence mentioned it to other people and have found some that have been using it on their "upper-end" boats and stradaglass for years without any negitive affect..
I now use it in the shop on new windows to remove the static befor they are installed..
