Cleaning 40 gallon Steel Diesel tank

Hello all,

Somewhat newbie sailor here.We have just pulled the 40 gallon diesel tank out of our 1971 Challenger 32'. This boat was dry docked with a full tank but it has been there for 8 years. There is crud on the bottom of the tank and a good layer of rust buildup,but nothing too crazy. I am dealing with a bout a 3 inch opening.I intend to start with a pressure washer and move from there. Is there any product that would help me along the way? Should I coat the inside with something when I'm done?

I appreciate any tips, past experience or recommendations you can provide.

you might want to cut out a bigger inspection port especially if you choose to coat the inside. depending on the tank baffle situation you may need more than one.
