Catalina 34 Salon Table Upgrade

We have a 1987. Has anyone rebuilt the table into the new design table that folds up into a smaller size? My thought is to build a table similar to the new type found in current models where the corners fold up on top of the base table thus making a smaller footprint (and opening up the seating for easier in and out).

Any ideas or experience would be much aporeciated.
