Carbon fiber spinnaker pole finish

I have a carbon fiber spinnaker pole. It is 7 years old and the clean finish appears to be checking and pealing a little.
Can this be refinished?
What should be used?

Wet sand the old finish with 120 or 220 (whichever gets you there with least trouble) then apply a few coats of a good uv protected clear. Most likely those spars had a 2 part clear but there are a few water borns now that are water clear and offer decent uv protection. (One is System 3)
