Can BBQ Grates Be Re-Enameled ?

I picked up an old Dickerson SeaBque from the tip, and the only thing wrong with it was the glass over the temp gauge is missing. I took it home and cleaned it up, it works fine but the grate plates are badly corroded. Can they be re-enameled or powder coated? Or do I have to either live with them after removing as much rust as I can and oiling them up before use or see about getting some new ones?

Don't know if you can get them re-chromed or if it would be cheaper to jist buy new one. Mine are SS.

Why? The old black stuff adds seasoning.

You don't want to chrome them. That stuff will come off in your food. Also, never use an oven rack to grill on unless you like eating heavy metal.

Thanks for pointing them out. I had thought they had gone out of business for some reason. I actually have the SBQ small and just emailed them for a quote on new grills and a thermometer.
