Cabin floor liner options

Apologies for the convoluted title but I am not sure how to describe this. The cabin sole is teak and holly and while that could probably use some attention, it is not the subject of my inquiry.

Adjacent to the cabin sole are curved portions of the hull that do also occasionally get walked on and they are currently lined with this sort of rubber diamond tread patterned mat. Under the galley stove, under the nav desk, and below the hanging locker. It is delaminating and peeling in regions. Even where it isn’t, it has a habit of collecting filth that is difficult to clean. See the pictures of what I am referring to.

Do people have any good suggestions for what to replace it with? I have considered using a cork sheet of some sort and then finishing it or sealing it somehow. I would be grateful for any other suggestions or experiences people have had. As I don’t know if there is a particular term for these areas I haven’t been able to turn up any specific threads. I would like something durable enough for the wear and tear of foot traffic while not being too slippery and also relatively easy to keep clean. Ideally something easy to install.

My boat in those areas is fiberglass with non-skid textured gel coat, just like the deck. I wonder if a previous owner applied those mats and what is underneath.

From the bits that have peeled away it seems like all that is underneath is the unfinished fiberglass of the hull which is somewhat coarse.

I suppose one possibility would be to sand/fair it smooth and then apply some paint with a non skid additive. However, living aboard in a winter climate I quite like the idea of something with a bit more insulation.

Re: Cabin floor liner options

Would a teak veneer be able to fit the curve? It would certainly look better than the rubber. The surface underneath it would need to be pretty smooth with the glue spread evenly to avoid bumps or bubbles in the veneer. Would cork absorb a lot of moisture and start to grow things? if you could find an applicator that gives you a surface you like, Kiwigrip might provide a bit of traction along with a level of insulation.

I suggest vinyl floor planks with a timber imprinted texture for a bit of traction (that's what I've used on my boat for a similar problem).

Im not sure whether a teak veneer would fit the curve. Probably. I don’t have any experience working with it to be able to say for sure.

The vinyl floor planks seem like a promising idea. Do you use a particular glue to attach them to the floor?

I think the cork would normally absorb moisture and stain but was curious whether I’d be able to varnish it or otherwise seal it somehow.

Cork isn't a bad idea, it's been done

You may can find it cheaper, but there are mats like these:

https://www.marinevinylfabric.com/pr...woven-flooring

I can't find it but I have woven mahogany-and-holly mat from Welcome Aboard for 10 years now full-time aboard and have been pleased with the mat, and it matches the Lonseal that is elsewhere aboard the boat

I spoke to Welcome Aboard and they seemed to think that cutting around the hatch cover for the bilge would not look great. Did you have any experience with this?

Re: Cabin floor liner options

Carpet! Warm to the feet, absorbs an incredible percentage of engine noise, non-slip ( especially if underlaid by non-skid mat commonly sold for hall runners, etc) easy to clean by vigorous vacuuming ( ideally running a mini shopvac off your inverter, but there are 12v options) sand doesn't scratch as it falls into weave, trapped until vacuuming. If you install wool carpet, it cannot easily ignite, so becomes a fire-safety item. Did this in my Irwin 43 center cockpit cruiser over 20 years ago ( still the same carpet!) And have never looked back.
