Bypass Solenoid For Raymarine Hydraulic Pilot?

Anyone know a good solution for the no longer available bypass solenoid for the Ray hydraulic pilots?

Mine sticks on rare occasions. Was sticky two years ago after being laid up during my refit, then it stuck once going up the Elbe a couple of weeks ago.

The pump is new as of about 4 years ago; the ram is original to the boat (so 14 years old).

My pilot has been magnificently reliable; one of the best things on the boat.

I'd like to carry a spare bypass solenoid just in case, but Raymarine have not been selling them for ages. Would not seem like an uncommon or hard to source part -- what are people using?

Re: Bypass Solenoid For Raymarine Hydraulic Pilot?

I found this:

Hydraulic Autopilot Drives & Steering Systems :: Pumps & Steering Systems :: Pilot check and unloader valves :: Cylinder Unloader Valve

And the Hypro hydraulic pumps look like my Raymarine-branded Type III pump.

Sounds like it could be compatible, and costs only 150 pounds.

Anyone have any experience?

I have no experience of the Raymarine set up, but hydraulic control doesn't necessarily require marine expertise. I expect there are many ways to skin this cat. There are shiploads of industrial hydraulic parts out there.

Perhaps a 2/2 n/c valve connecting the cylinder ends would work. Maybe costing £30. Or a valve block solution may be easier to slot in and you could try sunhydraulics.com. I bought a valve and block for my furler recently from them for about £80. Their choice and range is extraordinary. I wouldn't be surprised if they supplied the people you linked to.

Hypro is the manufacturer for B&G and raymarine hydraulic drives. Ask them directly?
