Butyl Tape

Hi,

I hear there is two types of Butyl Tape out there. A good kind and another that dries out over time.

One is more expensive than the other.

How do I know which one is the good kind, and where is the best place to find it?

Thanks

The RV guys swear by the grey butyl tape.

Personally I can't tell the difference in the feel of the black butyl rubber NAPA carries for bedding in windows on cars, and the 3M stuff you can get at the hardware store.

Not all “Putty” bedding tapes are actually Butyl Rubber.
If you want Butyl tape, look at the label for Polyisobutylene-Isoprene (isobutylene & isoprene); which can be manufactured in virtually any colour.
Boats aren't RVs, and there's only a few applications for bedding/glazing tape aboard.

Visit a shop that installs commercial windows professionally. They'll have the right stuff.
