I built a Roberts 43 trawler. I'd enjoy sharing experiences.

Re: Building a Bruce Roberts PCF40. Steel..

There have been times when I thought I would tackle another build...I had a blast....a lot of fun..probably one of the most enjoyable years of my life.....it would be interesting to do it again with the knowledge I have now...back then...I barely knew which end of a hammer to hold...had never welded in my life...etc...etc..but it all came together relatively smoothly all things considered..I wrote a book about it....

I really like the Roberts Mauritius 43, for the life of me, I could not tell you why I didn't build that, instead of the 38...I think in the BR catalog, the 38 page came before the 43 page...only logical reason I can think of...I still like it.....the 43 that is.....the 38 is a nice boat....but it really needed those extra 5' feet...

Re: Building a Bruce Roberts PCF40. Steel..

We bought (not built) a Roberts Offshore 44 from a semi-famous sailor.

Although the boat had been built well and sailed sweetly the neglect from the previous owner was impossible to overcome. Oh well, our fault, for not investigating better and falling in love.

I would build a steel boat, but I would never ever buy someone else's again.

What was the biggest issue with the BR that you had? Rusting from inside?

Peter Smith just sailed the Northwest Passage solo in Kiwi Roa, bound for Portugal currently.

So it apears that I have broken the rules. So therefore there will be no more advertising of my construction within this group. Thank you to all those who commented and the show of support.

What rules have you broken?

If I want to see your videos again all I have to do is go to YouTube and search Oldmansfolly and there they are.

I've given links to my videos before? (Not my day)

Re: Building a Bruce Roberts PCF40. Steel..

to coopec43, that is a beautiful boat. I can't say why I'm so enamored by the Mauritius 43, but I am, maybe it's the name. In my voyaging, I've seen a few varieties of the 43 in steel and fiberglass. They just push all the right buttons for me. If there was one in my neck of the woods I'd go and see it as I'm shopping for my 4th boat.

I've attached a pic of my 38.....it was a great boat, but needed that extra 5'....

hope this isn't considered a thread drift...but this thread appears to have met it's end...
