Bringing Second Hand Fittings from Australia

hello
if i buy a boat in the States, can i bring across( ship a crate, ) some fitting and equipment for that boat? ( like anchors, moring line , outboard engine for my dinguie , spare winchs , spares alieds, many tools ..ect..maybe 2 meters cubics stuff from my boat here and tools i need for my crossing of he pacific .
will i be paying some sort of taxes? considering all thie is second handed but in good condition

So your going to get a shipping container and load all your stuff ????... Your shipping agent should advise you, but when you bring it in you must declare its value and pay duty according to that value. The first XX dollars are free. When you delare its value try to keep it under that. I am not an expert or work for any govt agency. Good Luck.

no , i will not get a full container !!!!
like i mention , about 2 meters cubic only, maybe 100 kgs

If the boat is not registered in the States, you may be able to bypass any duty by using the "yacht in transit" ploy. Ask your shipping agent.
I'm curious as to what the shipping costs would be vs. the cost of buying the items over here.

well
to send some crate from Australia to Europe ( France) for 2 or 3 cubic meter meters will cost ruffly & 1000
the equipment and fitting i will send will be at least 5000-6000
the windwang , engine for the dingy, windlass , 2 anchors, electronique, set of carpentry tools as set of batteries tools ,winch, allied, inflatable kayak..blocks and tacles..ect..ect..
so if it cost around $ 1000 for Europe, i will presure it will be similar for the States.
my main question is more about issues over taxes,..ect..
I will check of course the fisiability once i am in the States , i have not any idea yet of the cost of fitting, rode, ..ect..
and as they are made in Nz and Australia , i will assume they will be cheaper here .

Why not use the boat as your "crate", and simply stow the new gear somewhere aboard? Don't know how you plan to ship her (or if you plan to sail back), but we used that method to get some surplus stuff back to the States from Brisbane on a boat going back via Dockwise.

I believe that Cathy's gear is in Oz, and her prospective boat is in the States. She wants to get the gear to the boat so she can sail it back to Oz.

if you get a hold of a shipper/exporter you will be able to put your stuff in a container(only part of a container) and ship it with other peoples' stuff or mfg stuff. don't know the cost but used to haul and stuff containers for a living. you just need to get ahold of a broker and they will be able to help you.

Yes i am bying especially the boat in the States ( not at all for financial raison ) but because i want to explore the US coast, then Mexico for 12 months and then sail slowly back in May 2011 across the pacific ,arriving in the Marqueses for my 50 birthday!
and sail back to Australia in 2 or 3 years.
being French/Australian , i can stay in French polynesia for a while..

And because i have here lots of gears from my 25 fts boats and gear of 40 fts too , i wish to used it if possible ..

i know i can "load" space in a container ,
my main question is , will i be taxes on my posession because they are "sailing goods".
they will not be news , and i do not have all the invoice for everything ,,blockl, taclkes ,,tools , few i have for a while..they are good as i always buy good quality tools and fittings..

don't know you'd have to check with your shipping broker. or go on line and ask U.S. Customs service
